If you’re doing wedding planning you must pick up the delicious wedding magazine The Veil. While the internet is a wonderful resource there’s just something tangible about paging through a luscious magazine and looking at the pretty pictures close up and reading the articles. You can get The Veil locally here in Milwaukee at Barnes and Noble or you can order it right from their site. Oh, and you should go ‘Like” them on Facebook, too

Hurry, week ends filling up fast for the Spring Portrait Special!

The response for the Spring Portrait Special has been awesome! However, week ends are filling up fast so don’t delay if you want an appointment in May. Hey! That rhymes!

May is a busy time around the studio and between weddings, first communion and proms those week end slots go quickly. Do remember that now that we have a little more daylight I can take appointments as late as 6:30 PM on the week days and if you have week day availability I can usually get in you within the week.

Your 20-30 minute session will be in the location of your choosing, or I can suggest great places around the Milwaukee area. You’ll receive online viewing of your photos to share with friends and family and 15-20 High Resolution images for your own usage/printing. The cost for the session is $299 and must be paid in advance to secure your time slot.

HINT…this would be a really nice Mother’s Day gift!

Featured today on the beautiful Myhotelwedding.com blog is Stephanie and Jonathans wedding last May in Chicago. How awesome to see this beautiful wedding published! It also made my heart happy because on their wedding day we experienced not just a little rain…not a gentle spring sprinkle…but a downpour. The all day, driving cold and nasty kind that lends itself not at all well for photos outside and we had planned on doing some pretty iconic photos around the Chicago area. At the end of the article Stephanie mentions that one of the last shots of the day was their favorite because we went out on to the Michigan Ave “The Miracle Mile” and got right in the middle of the street. Yep, right there in the middle. It had stopped raining and I was determined to get something cool and awesome for them because they were so cool and awesome about the weather being so nasty. (Jonathan even quipped that his family must have brought the weather over from England!) In the middle of the street with cars honking behind them and my assistant blocking me from the traffic while holding a light we made a cool picture.

Are you looking for a caterer for your wedding? One of my favorite caterers in town Saz’s Catering is holding a Showcase that is FREE to attend so you can taste their fine food from 4:30 to 7:30 on 4:30 on Thursday April 26th. Offering SO much more than their fantastic ribs, Saz’s has been doing up Milwaukee’s weddings for many years and I adore their food. The showcase will be held at the Milwaukee County Zoo, another great venue here in town if you’re looking for a place to rent. The Showcase will start at the US Bank Gathering Place and travel to the Apes of Africa, Peck Pavilion, Feline House, Zoo Terrace and the Zoofari Conference Center. There’s a shuttle to get around and fantastic food…and oh, did I mention it’s FREE?

I met the owners of Married in Milwaukee Angela and Greg a few weeks ago at a Third Ward Restaurant. Turns out we could have met mere blocks from our homes as we discovered we are practically neighbors! After some chit chat we discovered a few things in common, our shared love of Wauwatosa, our sadness at the closing of the Rosebud, our love of the city of Milwaukee and all things local and organic to the area. Within days Angela and I were sharing local events on each others Facebook page

I love their approach of featuring vendors and resources on their blog that are uniquely Milwaukee and supporting the idea of giving back to the place that you live. The “DIY” approach to weddings is nothing new, but why not take the time to support a local vendor at a farmers market when you go out and buy the candles for the head table? There’s so many things in our great city so keep an eye on Married in Milwaukee to give you the some great ideas to SUPPORT LOCAL!

More Wedding Fun Facts {Milwaukee Weddings}

One of my favorite Wedding Blogs to follow is Huffpost Weddings. It has interesting articles and takes on weddings trends without telling you that if you don’t have the latest vintage-chic-trendy-urban gerbera-daisys-in mason-jars your wedding is doomed.

In 2011, only 37 percent of weddings took place in summer months, down from 41 percent in 2009 and 2010. Fall grew in popularity, with 36 percent of weddings taking place in the fall months, compared with just 30 percent in 2009 and 2010.

{Fall has always been popular here in Wisconsin. I’ve personally seen no increase in fall weddings. Traditionally October is one of my first months to book out}

For the first time since 2009, couples spent more on each wedding guest. The average wedding spend per guest increased to $196, compared with $194 in 2009.

{I often get asked by friends and family what the amount is they should give for a wedding gift and I tell them that traditionally you give enough to cover your meal plus a bit more based on how close you are to the couple. Here in Metro Milwaukee the average plate is about $75 a guest. This of course varies from venue to venue but a good rule of thumb is the cost of the meal for yourself and your guest and about $50-$100 extra}

Brides spent more on wedding dresses in 2011. In 2010, brides spent an average of $1,099 on their wedding dresses.

{Sounds about right to me}

Interesting regional differences!

NYC couples had the largest Big Day budget — on average, they spent $65,824 on their weddings.

West Virginia brides, on average, spent approximately $14,203 on their weddings overall. West Virginia couples had the smallest wedding budget of all regions.

Iowa couples host the most guests, averaging 215 per wedding.

Nevada couples host the smallest weddings in the U.S., with an average of 63 guests.
